What is microfiltration, ultrafiltration and nanofiltration?


Microfiltration is a kind of precision filtration technology. It uses a filter with a pore size of 0.1-1.5μm to filter water. Microfiltration is a low-pressure membrane filtration. The inlet pressure is generally less than 0.2MPa, and the filtration precision is between conventional filtration and ultrafiltration. Between the components, the diameter of 0.03 ~ 15μm can be separated, which can remove particulate matter, turbidity, bacteria, viruses, algae and so on.


Ultrafiltration is a method of filtering water by using a pressure-sensitive filter with a pore diameter of 0.01-0.1 μm. The operating pressure is below 0.5 MPa, and the filtration precision is between nanofiltration and ultrafiltration. The diameter of the separable water is Macromolecular compounds and colloids with a molecular weight of more than 500, 0.005 to 10 μm, can effectively remove suspended solids, colloids, bacteria, viruses and some organic substances in water.


The filtration efficiency of the nanofiltration membrane is between reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration. In the early stage, it is also called loose reverse osmosis (Loose RO), and the operating pressure is below 3 MPa. The nanofiltration membrane is also called softening membrane in the early stage. It has a high removal rate of calcium and magnesium ions, and can effectively remove soluble components with a molecular weight of more than 200 and a molecular size of about 1 nm.
